Used Bentley – One Of The Most Prestigious Car Brands Ever |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Pete J Ridgard

Bentley has been known as one of the best car brands in the world for many a year. The luxury handcrafted models are painstakingly put together by incredibly knowledgeable workmen, who generally know the Bentley inside and out with unfailing accuracy. With sumptuous and almost unsurpassed interior detailing, an elegant and distinguished exterior, and name that comes with a reputation all of its own, this really is one of the most famous and respected motor brands around the globe.

Bentley actually began with W. O. Bentley selling cars. They weren’t even his own cars, although he did dream of creating and selling his own models one day down the line. Whilst these pipe dreams generally never come true, Bentley was one of those rare people who actually followed through, and the Bentley Motors ltd. Company was set up and established in 1919. Of course, cars were an imprecise art back then, and he didn’t actually manage to churn any out completed until much later in 1921!

Once Bentley Motors was properly up and running, the innovations started flowing in. Bentley had the clever and no doubt industry changing idea of using lightweight aluminium metal for pistons instead of the much more cumbersome cast iron predecessor. Essentially, these immediately become expensive and luxury cars for a very specific market of wealthy businessmen, securing at the very least the companies place in the motoring history books.

Of course, life isn’t always plain sailing even for a brand as prestigious as Bentley. In particular, it was the Great Depression that nearly tipped the brand over the edge – as no one wanted to buy expensive cars any more, the market plummeted and Bentley gave in and sold out to rivals Rolls Royce. Of course, if a luxury car brand is going to be owned by anyone, then the best person is probably another brand that understands your mission!

It was after that sell out that we started seeing some of the most iconic Bentley Models. The Continental and Mulsannes were released to rapturous reception, and later on the Turbos and Azures were equally successful. From those early days, Bentleys have become so popular that they can charge almost anything for their cars, securing them as true luxury commodities that seem unaffected by the current financial times.

If you love Bentleys and want a taste of the magic, then you are probably already aware of what models there are currently on the market (Continentals, Azures, Arnages and more), and just what sort of prices you can expect to pay.

If you want some real heritage, however, you have probably brushed up on your classics – and it may be worth considering a used Bentley dealer rather than a new model. Whilst you won’t get to be the first person to experience the delicious leather seats and amazing attention to detail, you will be able to rest assured that other important people have driven this before you. If you do opt for a classic, you will do doubt be able to feel the history in the wood itself.

Used Dodge – Take One For A Test Drive |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Pete J Ridgard

If you are looking for a new car, then it is likely that you will have done a little bit of research to decide what type of car you want. I don’t mean out on the street questionnaires or focus groups – I just mean going around some local dealerships, taking a few cars out for a test drive, and seeing what sort of vehicles really suits you needs. For some it will all be about nippy little sports saloons, whilst for others they will realise that practicality needs to win out.

Similarly, many people will realised that a small engine just isn’t strong enough for their daily driving needs – whilst the other half of the population will decide that small is where it is at.

If you have decided on the brand of car, then you are already halfway to finding a car that you can actually buy and drive away. Instead of trying to search all car makes all around the country, instead do you best to decide which specific brand and consequently which particular style of car you personally want. One brand that often gets overlooked is the much maligned Dodge range, even though they actually have some great cars for modern families and even executives.

If you hadn’t thought about owning a used Dodge, here is a brief overview of the types of cars they produce. Generally, as you might expect, Dodges are big cars. They focus more on space that sleek lines, and instead pay homage to the muscle cars history that is such an integral part of all American car brands. Big, chunky and with a massive front grilles, they are often the car of choice for people who need a functional car that doesn’t look like one of those generic shoebox shaped family machines.

If this powerful brand sounds like your cup of tea, then here are some of your options.

For executive types who want a smart work car that is a bit of a break from the norm, then the aggressively named Dodge Avenger is the car to trawl the used car dealerships for. Available in both petrol and diesel models, with a sizeable and more than suitable 2 – 2.4 litre engine, these luxurious cars look great but are at the bottom of the executive car price list. This is the car for those who don’t want to spend too much to look good.

Alternatively, you may be looking for a car that suits your family as much as it suits you, then look towards the Dodge Calibre. Spacious yet not over the top, this is packed with clever little space saving features and convenient design additions, such as a whole row of drinks holders. If you have a larger than average family, however, and need a 7 seated, then the Dodge Journey will show you just how practical and enjoyable a big car can actually be. Gone are the ugly fabrics and tight spaces, replaced instead with rotatable reclining seats that let everyone travel in an impressive level of comfort.

Used Dodge – A Design Inspiration |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Pete J Ridgard

I am going to be honest with you – I have never been a great fan of Dodges. Whilst the big American style cars may have done it for some people, I tended to find myself less than inspired by the shape and the design. I was, I suppose a complete and utter car snob. Then, through a series of twists of fate, I ended up taking a used dodge on a test drive – and must admit that it turned my world on its pretty little head.

I think seeing this beast of a car up close and personal was the first thing that started crumbling my anti-Dodge stance. The Avenger is quite gorgeous to look at, and not at all subtle – the grill is sizeable and beefy, whilst the overall shape of the car is rugged yet streamlined enough for driving the school run. From a distance I had for some reason assumed that these cars were dull, boring and uninspiring – whereas in actuality it turned out I really quite liked the butch lines and chunky over-sized wheels. It couldn’t be further from a delicate hairdresser’s car, which in my book is quite a serious advantage.

Once I had been defeated a little by the fact that I didn’t mind the looks of the Dodge Avenger at all, it was the start of a slippery slope. Having been walked around the car to admire the signature crosshair grill that added the aggression to the car’s design, the basic yet strangely spacious rear boot, and the optional alloys, I was introduced to the inside of what seemed destined to be my new car.

That interior was surprisingly lovely for a Dodge that started at a reasonable £16,500. The two-tone leather seats were the first things that caught my eye, clad as they are in lovely contrasting dark and light leathers. That stylish two-tone interior is continued up to the sleek yet light dashboard and the wheel, which is textured just right so that all you want to do is climb in the car, grab it, and start driving. I was also impressed by all the chrome and silver touches that made this car seem far classier than a basic model design could be expected to look. As it was a used Dodge Avenger it wasn’t perfect, but I was actually impressed by how little wear the smooth leather seats had had!

As I took it for a test drive that was the moment that everything clicked. I don’t think I had realised that the Avenger cam equipped with a 2.0 litre engine – and boy did I soon find out! The fact that I got to drive something with that power whilst knowing that the combined MPG is about 45 was just an added bonus.

Having driven around, playing with the features and the GPS and entertainment system that this used model had built in. I tell you, I don’t think I could survive without that wonderful addition! Now it is just a matter of saving up the cash for my deposit, and making that Dodge mine all mine!

Used Toyota – The Aygo |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Pete J Ridgard

Currently the second hand car market is skewed because of the scrappage scheme which has reduced the number of second hand cars available. This has increased the price of used cars so for the first time in history certain cars are probably worth more than you paid for them. Although there are less used cars available mostly the ones over 10 years old, there are still some fantastic deals on the market.

Since its launch in 2005 the Aygo has been a popular car to own. Now that 4 years have passed the second hand car market is looking very promising. Firstly they are still economical to drive because of the engine, size and weight of the car. Secondly road tax (new and used Aygos will only have to pay £20 per year road tax from April 2010) and insurance groups are still low which means the car is cheap to run. And lastly the car is cheaper to repair than other types of hatchbacks or superminis because of the way the car and parts have been designed. This would make an ideal car for anybody that was looking to own a cost effective vehicle.

The Toyota Aygo was a bargain at a competitively priced £3990 with the age of the car being just under 3 years old it was a great deal. The only downside about the car was the fact it had done over 60,000 miles when I bought it. For a three year old used Aygo prices range from £7000 to £3500. Prices can vary due to where in the country the car is being sold, age, condition, mileage, MOT and road tax expiry date, number of owners and the service history.

The Toyota Aygo only has 4 seats and a small boot but it is adequate enough for the needs of most 24 year old singletons. The Toyota Aygo is made in the same factory as the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107. All three have similar characteristics as one another such as the size and chassis to a certain extent. Used car prices vary slightly between the three manufacturers but all of them offer great value for money. Ford has updated the Ka probably to try and compete with superminis such as the Aygo already on the market. I prefer the design of the Aygo although there are limited colour choices when purchasing this used Toyota supermini. Most of the older Aygos I have seen are red in colour whereas the C1, 107 and particularly the Ka seem to have more colours available.

Overall though the Aygo is a great buy and everyone I have spoken to are happy with the car’s performance. Indeed the owner of the car I purchased upgraded to a brand new Aygo model. Owners also sell their Aygos not because they are unhappy with the car but due to lifestyle changes e.g. they need a car with 5 seats or bigger boot. If you require a car that is cheap to run and you only need a small amount of space then this is a great car for you.

Used Toyota – How the Prius Has Gone From Strength to Strength |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Pete J Ridgard

Ok, I admit it I have succumbed to the eco-friendly realm of popularity. When the Toyota Prius first came out in 1997 I didn’t notice many on the road. This could have been because it was one of the first commercial cars on the market and first impressions were sceptical. However in the last few years or so I have seen a definite increase in the number of Prius vehicles on the road. The thought of saving the planet is appealing if the hybrid vehicle allows less carbon to enter into the atmosphere. This is a great idea particularly because many scientific experts predict that oil will run out in some estimates as soon as 50 years.

The Prius has been a great success for a number of reasons. Firstly although it is a hybrid vehicle it looks great which is a major factor that has appealed to consumers. Secondly it is reasonably priced particularly the second hand models. Even though there are more gadgets and buttons than your average petrol car it isn’t too difficult to use particularly if you only want to know the basics of how the bits and bobs in the car work.

The price of a used Toyota Prius is obviously determined by several factors but it can range anywhere from £4000 to £15000. Toyota has also established itself over the years as one of the most reliable manufacturers on the market. This has allowed Toyota to develop cars like the hybrid because consumers trust the manufacturer and are more likely to purchase this type of car. As Toyota has invested heavily compared to other manufacturers in the hybrid field they are just starting to reap the benefits as sales have increased across the world particularly in certain states in the USA.

There are of course hybrid car critics that suggest Hybrid vehicles are not as eco-friendly as first thought. The first argument against hybrids is that it takes a great deal of energy to make these cars. For example the Prius has parts from a range of different countries. Secondly the car runs on electricity in addition to petrol. Currently the majority of electricity produced doesn’t come from renewable resources but governments are investing in this area. Therefore in the future electricity could come from wind or water making the Prius very attractive to purchase even today.

The Toyota Prius is the car of the future. More and more cars are likely to use some form of electricity or renewable energy. As time goes on, development and engineering pioneers will make automotive escapades much more friendly to the environment with newer engines that run on renewable fuel sources. It could also be argue that second hand cars offer great value for money with the mpg also being very reasonable. The best of both worlds would probably be to buy a Used Toyota Prius as this means you are recycling an older car, that just so happens to be part of a very important step toward ecologically friendly motoring.

Used Dodge – Perfect For a Large Family |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Pete J Ridgard

If you have a large family, then you are probably more than familiar with the trials and tribulations of carting a lorry load of children from A to B. This is on top of all the other life-stresses that you have to deal with – getting them into schools, driving them to school, getting the homework done, feeding them, and forcing them to go to sleep rather than play aeroplane games all night long! It can be a tiresome and uphill struggle even with all the rewards you get, and a little help would be much appreciated.

That help can come in the form of a really useful car, which not only lets you drive all the kids from place to place, but makes the process as easy and spacious as possible. If you can fit a tent, three bikes and a dog in the boot, then all the better. Unfortunately, finding a car that does this is a bit of a challenge in an automotive industry currently obsessed with super minis, hatchbacks, and smart little coupes. The emphasis has slipped from spacious SUVs or MPVs, making it a mission for anyone who needs more than two seats and a teeny tiny boot.

Thankfully Dodge has helped the situation, by producing an incredibly family friendly car that actually, believe it or not, looks impressively good with it. Whereas once you could expect to drive a giant shoebox if you had a big family, the Dodge Journey MPV instead shows that you can drive a big and elegant car whilst still having room for 7 inside. The exterior combines the distinctive dodge front grill with a shape that pays homage to the footballers wives 4×4s – high up off the ground and sleek to boot.

Inside your Dodge Journey, which we all know is where matters, you are blessed with 7 seats for all your kids, dogs and friends. The access in the back is practical and easy, meaning that even the third row passenger can climb in with ease. This is a vast improvement on all those old fashioned cars with little fold out seats bunged in the boot – here, safety levels are high and the seats are actually comfortable. You also still get a decent amount of rear boot space, even considering the third row seats and the fact that all the chairs recline for ultimate passenger comfort.

If you are looking to add a 2.0 litre or 2.4 litre Dodge Journey to your family, and want to make life easier without spending much money, then you should probably consider buying a used Dodge from a reputable dealer. Avoid private sellers who may not be wholly legitimate, and instead elect to spend your very hard earned cash on a used or nearly new model. It is rarely worth buying new as you have to pay the VAT, but it can make sense to buy a car a year or less than a year old just to save that 15%.

Tips on How to Sell Used Cars |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Adriana N

Due to the troubled economic climate, most people have made efforts to cut down on their personal expenses. This has led to more people shopping for better deals. One area that has seen an increase in business is the sale of used cars. When selling a used car, one has to make sure that it will be attractive to potential buyers and that it will sell close to its retail value. There are a number of things you have to do to show buyers that your used car is a worthwhile investment.

Below are a number of tips on how to sell used cars:

1. First impressions will either result in a sale or turn potential buyers away. It is important that you prepare to sell your used car. You need to make it look as good as new. Check the exterior all over for scratches, dents, rust, and chipped paint. Fix and paint any bad spots. Use a scratch remover for small scratches. Scratches can be sanded and have a coat of paint applied. As well, check your tires to see if the treads are worn and if they are leaking air. You should replace any worn tires. Once you have repaired any damage, thoroughly wash the exterior and wax it.

2. Prepare the interior of the car. Check the upholstery for any tears and repair them. Get rid of any garbage. Vacuum the inside of the car, including the air vents and crevices. Use a mild cleaning agent to clean the interior. Make sure you clean any stains and check the floors to see if there are any holes that need to be filled.

3. Check for any missing or broken parts such as the rear view mirror, stereo knobs, lights, windshield wipers, ashtrays trim, broken seat belts…etc. Repair or replace items that are broken or missing.

4. Take your car for a test drive. Listen for any unusual sounds such as a loud muffler, transmission jumping gears, or squeaky breaks. If you hear anything, get a mechanic to exam the car. As well, look under the car for any unusual leaks. Check under the hood for any problems such as a corroded battery. Make sure all of the fluids are full.

5. When determining the price of the car, check to see what the most popular cars are. As well, note the mileage of the car. A car with high mileage will sell for less. Check the Kelly Blue Book to determine the value of the car so you are offering a fair price. There are also a variety of online car sites where you can compare prices of cars. You can also do this online by comparing vehicles at a variety of car websites. The price you choose should reflect the history of its reliability, the make/model/year, condition of the car, and the mileage.

6. Make sure you have all of the important documents such as the car’s registration, title to the car, record of maintenance, inspection papers, warranties, and record of replacement parts. You can also obtain a CARFAX Vehicle History Reports to show potential buyers that you are not hiding anything.

Perception is everything when selling a used car. It is important to take the time to make the car look as good as new and be honest with potential buyers. It will greatly increase the likelihood that you get the price you want for the used car.

In-depth study and Technical aspects of Indian Passenger Vehicle Industry |

January 26th, 2010

Author: Bharat Book Bureau

Indian Passenger Vehicle Industry: ‘Small is beautiful’

Owning a car is aspired by every Indian household and with low penetration, increasing income levels and resumption of buoyancy in the economy, the opportunity in the passenger vehicle market is humungous. At present, around 30 out of every 1,000 households in India own a car. Even if the households that can afford owning a car are considered, the penetration is as low as 45 per cent. Having said this, of the households affording a car, around 70 per cent fall at the bottom of the income distribution pyramid and can afford owning a small car only. Furthermore, the excise duty on small car is lower at 8 per cent as against 20 per cent on big cars. This would translate into strong growth in the small car segment. The factors like households affording big cars but opting for small cars on account of their easier maneuverability given the traffic chaos and parking constraints in metros and poor infrastructure and congested agglomerations in smaller towns would help pushing the small car sales growth. Furthermore, rich households opting for small cars as their additional cars either for female or young members in the family or for smaller trips would also push small car sales. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=129357&rt=Indian-Passenger-Vehicle-Industry.html )

Nano is foreseen to give a supply-side push to the small car sales, as its first year cost of ownership, which typically determines the threshold income levels for buying the vehicle, is around 25 per cent lower than Maruti’s 800, the next cheapest available car. This has added 1 million households that can afford buying a car by 2013-14. The Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have taken into cognizance the humungous opportunity in small car sub-segment. Four out of the six launches till date in calendar 2009 fall in small car sub-segment, which includes Tata Nano, Maruti Ritz, Fiat Punto and Honda Jazz. Only Tata Manza and Chevrolet Cruze (General Motors) fall in mid-size sub-segment. Eight more launches are expected in the small car sub-segment in the next 15-18 months.

It developed a detailed statistical model that attempts to forecast the domestic passenger vehicle sales. The sales are segregated between personal use and commercial use on the basis of interaction with the industry and analytical acumen. Vehicle sales for commercial sales are forecasted on the basis of service sector GDP growth, while the vehicle sales for personal use are forecasted on the basis of ownership cost and the target household that can afford to own a car. Other qualitative factors like macro-economic outlook, consumer confidence, willingness of vehicle financers to finance purchases, actions of OEMs like launches, aggressiveness, sales push techniques, delaer network etc have also been quantitatively built in the demand forecasting model.

The report is divided into four sections. Section I presents viewpoint on the industry that covers domestic and export sales forecasts for the next five years and outlook on the profitability for next 15 – 18 months. Section II provides an in-depth study of the Indian passenger vehicle industry encompassing its evolution and the trends in the last five year. Section III provides profile of key players in the industry, while Section IV contains technical aspects and various key data tables as an Annexure to the report.
