January 24th, 2010

Author: Paul Ritchie

A griddle is a must have kitchen item for every household. Electric griddles are a great improvement in this already useful cooking tool. Electric griddles heat up much faster than ordinary cooking pans. They also cook evenly as well to prevent your food from sticking. The result is great tasting food in less time with easy clean up. The one disadvantage of electric griddles is they can’t be used in the oven as regular griddles can.

Electric griddles come in many sizes. You can pick the size that is right for you based on the size of the household you cook for on a regular basis. If your house is anything like mine, there are usually extra people around at meal times on a regular basis. It will also depend on the available storage space you have. These griddles come in a great array of colors, allowing you to choose one that perfectly matches your other kitchen tools and accessories.

Electric griddles can be purchased with a cord that is attached and plugs into the wall or with one that has a separate cord. For this model, you will need to plug it into the wall as well as to the side of the griddle. While this model is much easier to clean, be careful not to misplace that cord! Most electric griddles are not to be put into your dishwasher, but they are made of materials that allow for easy clean up.

Electric griddles vary in cost depending on the size you choose, where you purchase it, what materials it is made of, and what brand you choose. If you are not sure, the internet can offer you some valuable information regarding the most recommended models for the types of foods you plan to use it for. Generally, they range in price from $30 to $100. You can sometimes find great sales online, but be careful. The added shipping cost can sometimes make the end price more than if you purchased it locally. Look for online dealers who offer free shipping, especially around the holidays.

Electric griddles make a great addition to your kitchen. They are great for cooking a variety of foods without the mess. This item also makes a great gift for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and Christmas. Electric griddles are well worth the investment. Not only do they help you prepare great meals, they are inexpensive, long lasting, and most come with a warranty.

Who has not owned a George Foreman Grill? |

January 24th, 2010

Author: Paul Ritchie

George Foreman’s endorsement of his line of grills that offer a fat reducing and inexpensive way of cooking have become a household item. His slogan is “knock out the fat”.  The line was introduced in the year 1999. The items are sold under the company Salton. They invested in the right product. So far sales have grossed $127.5 million in cash and $10 million in stock. While looking at the various products on the internet, I thought what perfect Christmas gifts they would make. I decided to do some surfing to find out what all products are offered under the George Foreman Grill line.

I found about 12 different products. They all vary is size. They range in uses from warming buns to grilling hamburgers to deep frying chicken. I also found a line of George Foreman Grill seasonings and cleaning supplies. Some of the grills are to make one or two items, while others allow you to make enough for your entire family. The newest line of grills features full size outdoor grills to use for barbeques and enjoying the nice days outside. George Foreman recipe books make a nice addition when purchasing a grill as well.

These grills are so popular because they make food taste great while reducing the amount of fat, making the meal better for you. In an age when our society is becoming more and more health conscious in an effort to lose weight and prevent heart disease, the George Foreman Grills are a high item on the market.

The grills range in price for about $25 to several hundred dollars for the full size barbeque grills. The price is very reasonable for what you are purchasing. The grills have a money back guarantee that is honored without question. The grills are also durable and very easy to clean. Most cook the meat on both sides at the same time, greatly reducing the amount of cooking time. The grills have a tray to collect the excess fat, so you can see it actually being removed away from your food. The tray easily slides out to allow clean up to be a breeze.

The George Foreman Grills offer a variety of products to meet the needs of any household. If you don’t have one, you might consider putting one on your list for Santa!

While all of these can be purchased through the internet customer must remember that the shipping and handling are charged to many of the purchases, as opposed to going to a store personal you might have to put gasoline into the automobile. So customer will have to shop and compare the pros and the cons of shopping at the stores verse tapping it out on a keyboard, fighting the long lines at the check out lines to shopping at home.

Griddles come in many sizes to meet the needs of your kitchen |

January 24th, 2010

Author: Paul Ritchie

Griddles are a flat metal surface or pan on which food is cooked with dry heat. Many griddles are made of cast iron.  In addition to being a great household item, griddles are used outdoors.  Consumers who are avid campers and dedicated hunters have more than one griddle. They love the added flavor cooking on a griddle gives to their food.

Griddles come in many sizes to meet the needs of your kitchen and the open camp fire. The size of the griddle you will select depends on what you plan to make in it and how many people you plan to feed on a regular basis. Griddles are made out of several materials including cast iron and Teflon. They range in price depending on the size, the materials used, and the band you select to purchase.

Griddles generally last a very long time. Some cast iron ones have been passed down from one generation to another, and are still great to cook in. Cleaning a griddle is fairly easy. It is recommended that you only use a mild soap and a dish rage. Harsh chemicals and scouring pads can ruin the bottom of them. Dishwashers are usually not a good idea either.

Most grills are quality made and come with warranties any where from 1 year to 10 depending on the manufacture of the product. Some  department stores have an in-store policy if anything goes wrong with it within a month of purchase they will replace it, but with this type of policy the consumer needs to keep their receipt to have proof of purchase.

Griddles are used to match a variety of great foods, both indoors and out. They have been around for centuries. Griddles are popular because they are inexpensive, the hold up to the elements, the cook evenly, and food does not stick. If your kitchen doesn’t have a griddle, you are missing out.

Six Foods That Could Make You Live Longer |

January 24th, 2010

Author: Lecordonbleu

Everyone knows that a balanced diet full of fresh vegetables and fruits, complex carbohydrates, low-fat proteins, and low-fat dairy foods will ensure a healthy, long life. But did you know there are several foods that have proven to provide many health benefits including longevity in life?

Spinach

Most foods that help to improve life expectancy are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants fight against free radicals (harmful elements in the environment form the sun, wind, and pollution) that destroy cells and essentially wear down the body. Think of antioxidants as internal filters that protect cells from breaking down.

Green leafy vegetables such as spinach are high in vitamins A and C, which are both considered antioxidants. Raw, uncooked vegetables will always give you more nutritional bang, but steamed broccoli is still a powerful food. Find a way to incorporate spinach into your salads, sandwiches, and side dishes regularly.

Flax seeds

Flax seeds contain the essential fatty acid, Omega 3, which is a critical component to cellular health. Additionally, Omega 3 reduces risk of stroke, heart disease, certain cancers, arthritis, and some brain illnesses. Fish and eggs are high in Omega 3, but flax seed oil has up to six times more Omega 3 than other sources. Flax seeds can be added to a home made trail mix or flax seed oil can be purchased for a tasty salad dressing.

Nuts

Almonds and walnuts are particularly good for your health because they are packed full of omega 3, antioxidants, folic acid, selenium, and copper. Nuts are an excellent source of protein and healthy fat too. Studies show that nuts work to maintain cardiovascular health and help control weight. Toss a few nuts on your salad or take a handful as an afternoon snack, and you can’t go wrong.

Blueberries

A blueberry is often coined a superfood, or a food that has health benefits beyond just nutritional value. Blueberries contain many antioxidants and are low on the glycemic index (less sugar). A small serving of blueberries contains high levels of vitamins C and K, B3, manganese, and fiber. Other superfoods include the acai berry, broccoli, and oats.

Green Tea

Studies show that green tea not only acts as a powerful antioxidant, but also increases metabolism. With a single cup of green tea every day, you will work to keep your waist line in check. By controlling weight, the risks of heart disease and diabetes are decreased. Other benefits of green tea include cholesterol control and cancer prevention.

Kidney Beans

High in protein, kidney beans help to detoxify your body of sulfites and also provide a healthy source of fiber. Fiber leaves you feeling full, which will help control weight, and helps maintain digestive and overall health. Other low-fat, high-protein beans include black beans, pinto beans, and navy beans.

Bonus Treats

Other excellent foods that are proven to provide health benefits include dark chocolate, red wine, and coffee. While all of these foods should be eaten or drank in moderation, they serve as good food options when it is time to indulge.

Recipes for the Tastiest Fried Foods |

January 3rd, 2010

Author: Patrick Carpen

Sometimes we just have to give in to the urge to indulge in our favorite fried foods. Whether you are craving a sweet fried treat or a savory southern fried favorite, this article has several recipes that even the inexperienced cook can master! So if you’re in the mood for a nice fry-up, have a look at the following dishes:

Southern Fried Chicken Strips

Ingredients:
1 lb of chicken breasts, cut into strips
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/4 cup of flour
1 tbsp of chicken instant bouillon
1/2 tsp oregano
1 tsp paprika
vegetable or peanut oil for frying

Directions:
In a large bowl, mix together the buttermilk, chicken bouillon, and oregano. Set this aside for about ten minutes, then stir well. Put the chicken strips in a large bowl and pour the buttermilk/bullion/oregano mixture over them. Roll or stir them to ensure they are fully coated. In a plastic bag, add the flour and paprika. Chuck in a few pieces of chicken at a time, seal the bag, then shake it to coat the chicken. Remove the chicken strips, coat them in the buttermilk mixture again, then shake them in the flour again. Heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the chicken pieces until they are golden brown all over. Drain using paper towels, then serve.

Fried Fish

Ingredients:
1 lb fish fillets (cod or haddock are best, but tilapia will do)
1/4 tsp of paprika
1/2 cup of flour
oil for frying
salt and pepper (to taste)

Directions:
In a bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, pepper, and salt. Roll the fish in the flour mixture to evenly coat. Fill a skillet with about an inch of oil and preheat to about 375 degrees F. Fry the fish for about 10 minutes (5 minutes on each side) and remove to paper towels to drain.

Onion Rings

Ingredients:
1 onion (cut into 1/4 inch slices)
1 egg
1 1/4 cup of four
1 cup of milk
3/4 cup of bread crumbs
1 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of salt
oil for frying
salt and pepper

Directions:
Heat the oil to 365 degrees F (for best results, use about 1 quart of oil in a deep fryer). Pull the onion slices apart to separate the rings. Set them aside while you prepare the batter. In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Roll each ring in the flour mixture to coat well, then set aside. Add the milk and egg to the flour mixture and stir well. Dip the rings into the batter until they are well coated. Place the onion rings on a rack or other surface on which the excess batter can be drained away. Put a few rings at a time in the deep fryer for about 3 minutes (or until they appear golden brown). Set on paper towels to drain excess grease. Season with salt and pepper, then serve.

Donuts

Ingredients:
2 cups of flour
1/2 cup of sugar
3/8 cup of milk
1/2 tsp of baking soda
1/4 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of shortening
1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
1 egg
2 tbsp white vinegar
confectioner’s sugar
1 quart of oil for frying

Directions:
Mix together the milk and vinegar. In a separate bowl, whisk together the shortening and sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour, salt, and baking soda. When that is thoroughly blended, add the milk and vinegar mixture. Sprinkle flour onto the counter top and roll the dough out to about 1/3-inch thickness. Cut with a donut cutter or mold into desired shape. Let them sit for about 10 minutes while you heat the oil in a deep skillet (bring to 375 degrees F). Fry the donuts, on both sides, until golden brown. Drain excess oil with paper towels, then dust with the confectioner’s sugar.
