Choosing A Restaurant The Well Informed Way |

January 24th, 2010

Author: Adrianna Noton

There are many factors that go into choosing a restaurant to eat at. Food quality, cost, convenience, and occasion all enter in to the decision. Once these factors are considered, one must then decide what type of food they desire.

This article will examine the many decisions that go into restaurant choice. This article will also examine the different types of restaurants available to the general public.

Things to consider:

Occasion – If you are going on a date and trying to impress someone, you should select a formal place. If you are in a large group, think family style. If you are by your self, you might try something faster.

Convenience – This plays a large role in your decision making. You might choose a place that offers delivery or take-out service for the sake of convenience.

Quality – The degree of quality in a restaurant is important as well. This detail can affect not only the overall dining experience, but the quality of ingredients and nutritional value as well.

Cost – Depending on where you eat, there can be vastly different costs. Keep in mind, although this is not always the case, the less you spend, the less likely you are to get enjoyable food.

Types of food:

American – Choose this if you are in the mood for burgers, fries, shakes, or a root beer float.

Mexican – Very popular in the southwest, choose from tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tamales, and more.

Asian – A very healthy option, Asian food is rich in rice, chicken, vegetables, and seafood. For vegetarians, try tofu with your dish.

Sushi – A classy favorite, seafood, rice, and seaweed. What could be more health conscious?

South American – Rich in meat and potatoes, as well as distinct plants, Argentina is known for its grass-fed steak.

Southern – For those with healthy hearts, taste the catfish, fried chicken, and greens.

Italian – Another American favorite. Pizza, pasta, and lasagna highlight this irresistible choice. Choose from a variety of noodles, meats, and sauces.

French – The simple pleasure of visiting a cafe with a loved one, and enjoying a French pastry should entice any romantic individual to frequent this type of establishment.

Seafood – Choose from the shelled variety, and from rarities like shark, squid, and swordfish.

Types of restaurants:

Fast food – Cheap, easy, inexpensive, and almost universally unhealthy.

Order at counter – Great option because you get the quality of a restaurant, without the wait time of a sit-down establishment. You can also avoid tipping at this type of place.

Diner – Few things offer the nostalgia of sitting at the counter of a historic diner and enjoying a slice of pie and ice cream.

Sit down restaurant – This is the type of place to go to if you are looking for a more formal setting. Additionally, these establishments often offer the finest foods.

Delivery – avoid the whole process of leaving home with this option. Be aware of delivery fees and tipping that is required. Perfect for rainy days.

Clearly there is much that goes into choosing a restaurant. Hopefully this article served to inform you of the decisions and food choices available to the general public.

I Should Open My Own Italian Restaurant |

January 2nd, 2010

Author: Adrianna Noton

I have thought about opening my own Italian restaurant because I love to cook and I love to cook Italian food. One of my favorite items to cook is lasagna. I actually cook lasagna for thanksgiving dinner instead of turkey. But whether you are cooking lasagna, manicotti, ravioli, or even pizza, the key is in the pasta sauce. Here is my recipe for great pasta sauce which is the basis for most Italian meals.

I used to use a large soup pan to prepare the sauce but now I use a slow cooker. It is easier because I do not have to stir the sauce as much as I do cooking it over a stove. I do sometimes open the lid on the slow cooker to stir maybe two or three times but other than that the sauce is on its own. You need a food processor for this pasta sauce recipe. And of course you need the slow cooker.

This pasta sauce is a vegetable based pasta sauce. Sometimes I add chicken or beef. Use your food processor to grate four medium sized carrots and three baby zucchini squash; process one large onion with three cloves of garlic and process a half stalk of celery with one bunch of parsley. Place all these all these ingredients on the bottom of your slow cooker which you have set on the low cooking time and temperature.

Now cover the ingredients with two 28 ounce cans of diced tomatoes and one eight ounce can of tomato paste. Stir all the ingredients together. Now add the spices. You add one teaspoon each of rosemary, thyme, oregano, marjoram, basil, savory, and sage. Give that a good stir. Now you add about two tablespoons of sugar. The sugar cuts down the acidity of the tomato.

You cook this in the slow cooker for two to three hours at the lowest temperature setting. You can stir the sauce during the cook time a few times but unlike cooking your pasta sauce on the stove top you do not have to come back and keep stirring.

Some pasta sauce purest would never use a slow cooker for pasta sauce but I have tried both and I do not taste a difference in the sauce and it is easier for me to use a slow cooker because I can go off and not worry about the sauce boiling and splashing my stove top.

But if you want to use a stove top method raise the sauce first to a boil and then reduce the flame to a low simmer. And keep stirring the sauce so it does not stick to the pan. Once the cook time is over prepare some spaghetti and try out your sauce I am sure you will enjoy it.

Remember to refrigerate it once it cools down. I place the sauce in a cool sauce pan so it will cool faster. You will have plenty of sauce to last you all week if you are serving one or two. Or if you have prepared the sauce for many guests it may all go at once. Perhaps you will visit my Italian restaurant someday and recognize this pasta sauce recipe.

In any city or town across the country, there are a large number of restaurants which can make marketing quite difficult. Every restaurant owner understands that the right marketing strategy is essential to success. Fortunately, there are many strategies that can be implemented locally to bring in diners.

Local Promo Distribution: On a slow day, have your employees go out in the business community and drop off fliers, free sample cards, menu fliers, and business cards. The staff can meet all the businesses and get to know them on a personal level. As well, provide information about special events. Make sure the staff is wearing clothing with the restaurant name on it.

Such announcements can be a new dish, special event such as a sponsoring a charity or sporting event, restaurant anniversary…etc. You can make your announcements by sending out press releases. Online press releases are an effective tool that can be used to target your geographical area.

Utilize Online Local Business Profiles: MSN, Google, Yahoo help local businesses by providing a local search engine. These local engines help local businesses get more local exposure online. You can write about a variety of restaurant related things such as healthy ways of eating, new recipes, special events, food related topics, and much more. Make sure you use plenty of keywords that target your geographical area.

Local Advertising: Make use of direct mail, local newspapers, magazines, tourist bureaus, radio, and television to promote your restaurant. Create special and unique ad campaigns that will make your restaurant stand out from the other local dining establishments. It is a great way to announce special deals and provide discounts. Take advantage of a variety of different types of discount offers.

I Really Love Montreal Restaurants |

December 11th, 2009

Author: Adrianna Noton

You do not want to miss dining in Montreal restaurants. Great service and great eating is the fare of the day and night. When I eat in Montreal it is all I expect from a fine restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere and attention to small details make every meal I have had in this beautiful city worthwhile. You can find quality at budget prices at many eateries in Montreal.

Some of the highest rated in the world call Montreal their home. Many feature classic haute cuisine and have exceptionally stocked wine cellars with some of finest French wines on this continent. Many restaurants are enhanced by fine Canadian art, real flowers, romantic lighting and of course white table linens. Montreal focuses on wonderfully prepared traditional dishes.

You will fine the best prime rib of beef, terrine of duck, venison medallions, and for the health conscious some of the best poached salmon you will ever lift to your lips. Dancing and live music is the Saturday night fare at some of the livelier cafes. How about the best steak you have ever tasted topped off with a selection of decadent French sauces. Traditional steakhouses in Montreal give beef lovers a touch of Paris.

Perhaps seafood is more your taste. Some of the best lobster prepared you will ever enjoy is found in Montreal. Your particular seafood favorite is guaranteed to be on the menu and you will want to come back soon to try another seafood specialty. Many of Montreal’s finer restaurants have wonderfully rustic decors, beamed ceilings and traditional Quebecois pine armoires.

You will want to call in advance for reservations at most of the fine restaurants in Montreal but even if you do not have one if there is room you will be seated immediately. There is no snobbery in this friendly city. In all restaurants I visited everyone was friendly and offered wonderful service.

French restaurants serve delectably prepared wonderfully seasoned dishes at night. But in selected cafes lunch has a particular draw because of moderate priced lunchtime specials. If you enjoy beef Wellington or candied duck during the middle of the day, you might want to visit when the prices are a little less expensive.

And do not forget decadent desserts. Stylish venues offer warm colors, soft lights and gorgeous patinas; perfect for dinning with that special someone. You say Italian is your style of eats. Luscious lasagna, perfect pasta sauce, mouth watering manicotti, will make you think you are in Rome not Montreal. You will eat some of the best pizzas in Montreal topped with fresh ingredients all grown locally.

I love to cook. But I do not necessarily love to eat out. I usually leave the restaurant knowing I could have cooked a better meal and I could feed my family for a week on the money I spent on my dinner alone. But this is not the case when I am in Montreal. I could not match the cuisine and prices overall are the most reasonable I find for the quality of food and service. Take it from me Montreal restaurants are some of the best I have ever visited in the world.

I Love the Restaurants in Toronto |

December 11th, 2009

I love Toronto. It is one of my favorite cities. It is called a mini New York because if has all you would ever want entertainment wise. You can see a first class play, hear a great concert, and get a top class meal at many of the restaurants in Toronto.

Toronto is one of the cleanest cities in the world. With as many people that live in Toronto this is saying a lot. The whole city is clean conscious and everyone does their part to keep the city clean. And you can find some of the finest steakhouses in Toronto.

The restaurants do their best to obtain some of the best prize winning beef on the east coast. Some steak houses have been serving the some quality type steaks for over sixty years. They have customers who have been eating there since their grandparents brought them. Toronto has one of the best metro systems in the world. You do not need a car to get around the city.

There is a subway, a trolley system, and a bus line you can use to get anywhere you need to get to in Toronto. Some of the best seafood can be found at Toronto restaurants. Do you like lobster? You will find none better outside of Toronto. Perhaps you like Sushi. Toronto has some of the most delicious Sushi on the continent.

One of my favorite restaurants bakes baskets of garlic and then uses the garlic to create the most wonderful garlic bread toast I have ever had. I know it was more than the oven baked garlic that made it the best garlic bread I have ever had, but the chef would not share his recipe with me. I do not blame him. I certainly will not let that keep me from coming back again and again. I took an order to go with me that day. Toronto is also one of the safest cities in the world.

Given the size of their population I would call them the safest large city in the world although I cannot verify that. But I certainly feel safe when I am in Toronto. Which means I can stroll around the city looking for a new Toronto restaurant without being afraid of any crime; who wants to lose ones appetite when looking for a good meal anyway?

I think my favorite type of food is Italian. And the best lasagna I have ever had was in Toronto. It was a combination of chicken, spinach, broccoli, and three different chesses. But it was the perfect pasta sauce that made the meal. Almost all finer Toronto restaurants have an excellent wine selection.

And if you did not know this already, the nicest people in the world are Canadians. For such a large metropolitan city you might expect to be treated less than politely at times. This is not the case in Toronto. You will feel like a welcome guest wherever you go. And in each restaurant I have eaten in Toronto I felt like a member of the restaurants family. And the prices are very reasonable everywhere at every restaurant I ate at. Go to restaurants in Toronto for a great meal, great service, and good prices.

For anyone who has lived or visited Montreal, Canada, they can surely tell you how the restaurants in Montreal are excellent. Although no one can really tell you why, some of the best restaurants in the world are in this beautiful city.

Furthermore, you can also enjoy any type of European cuisine from Greek to Italian, from Portuguese to Spanish, from Polish to Russian, and of course, French. All of these excellent restaurants can be found throughout the city, whether situated downtown Montreal or in the suburbs, making it very easy for any visitors to enjoy excellent meals. And for those visitors who don’t want to leave their hotel, the food that is served in Montreal hotels is simply exquisite. Top chefs work hard to satisfy the pallets of the rich, the famous, and even the regular entrepreneurs visiting the city.

Of course, this city is also known for its own specialties, such as smoked meat. Once this meat is prepared, it is then sliced ever so properly and put between two pieces of rye bread with some mustard. The sandwich is second to none, in terms of taste. Montreal is also home to some exquisite Poutine. Although gourmet meal, it is very popular among visitors and Montrealers as well. This is actually a meal created with french fries topped with gravy and curd cheese.

The fact remains that Montrealers maintain a certain style that is different from all of North Americans. Much of that has to do with the French culture, as well as all the immigrants who have fought to keep their traditions. These immigrants have opened restaurants and provided the city with some of the best that they have to offer. Everyone strives for perfection here, because of the mass competition in this industry.
