Marketing to Introverts: Seven Marketing Pitches That Leave Introverts Cold |

January 25th, 2010

Author: Marcia Yudkin

According to Dr. Marti Olsen Laney, introverts make up roughly 25% of the population. Yet when you look at high-IQ people and high earners, the percentage is far higher. So if you hope to capture the attention and patronage of introverts, it’s vital to downplay or avoid marketing tactics that don’t influence them to buy – or send them running in the opposite direction.

Unlike extroverts, who thrive on social interaction, introverts recharge their batteries by being alone. They tend to be more private, quiet and to-the-point than extroverts.

Here are seven types of marketing pitches that are common in Internet marketing – and elsewhere – that leave introverts cold.

1. Earnings brags. Screen shots of earnings as they appear in a shopping cart program or merchant account report are pervasive in Internet marketing promotions. Some proponents of this tactic claim that this is the only way to prove that the seller is as successful as he says. Introverts aren’t swayed by such “proof,” however, because someone who shows exactly how much money they made is utterly unlike them. To the introvert, what such a person made doesn’t indicate how much they themselves might make. The introvert is far more likely to take an interest in customer testimonials from people who sound like themselves.

2. Name dropping. Introverts make decisions on substance, not on who knows who, so referring constantly to big-name people as your friends doesn’t influence them at all. Likewise, some speakers boast that they “shared the stage with so-and-so,” but to an introvert that is no credential – not even a weak one. Trotting out the names of famous clients and sharing things they said is considerably worse, because it gets introverts thinking that you do not respect confidences.

3. Numbers served or sold. A bio in a direct mail piece I received yesterday starts off: “Dr. XXX currently owns and operates a clinic in YYY with over 20,000 patients.” To an introvert, this fails to impress at all. Who wants to be one of 20,000? Introverts dislike being part of a herd, following the crowd or being treated as a number. If this bio said instead that Dr. XXX deliberately keeps his practice small, so he can give each patient personal attention, and that there’s a waiting list of several months to see him, that would make him far more interesting to the introvert.

4. Saying large is small. “We’re limiting this seminar to just 150 people, so act fast,” said one promotion I heard recently, but to an introvert that statement is totally absurd. A room containing 150 people is a crowd, not by any stretch of the introvert’s imagination an intimate event. To the introvert, any group larger than about 12 is no longer small. It’s fine to run large events. Just don’t call them small!

5. Pressure to decide fast. Introverts have certainly been known to make impulse buys, but since they pride themselves on thinking things through, they resent and reject pressure to make up their mind before they’re ready. Introverts generally want a lot of information before pressing the “buy” button, and if you use a countdown clock saying there’s only XX minutes or hours until the offer goes away forever, they’re gone instantly, never to return.

6. Talking head videos. Since introverts usually love to read and can read quickly, they feel tortured when a web site conveys crucial information in a video that could have been conveyed in text. They don’t hate the video medium in itself, only when it seems to be used out of laziness or self-aggrandizement rather than to show something that couldn’t be as easily communicated any other way.

7. Too much personal information. Introverts prefer you to get to the point. Therefore, when you go on and on and on about your spouse, kids, pets, vacation or new yacht they tune out. If you want introverts as clients, beware of revealing facts that may reflect badly on you, even if you believe you’ve cast them in a positive light.

For example, you may think discussing having gone bankrupt makes your current success more impressive. The introvert may not be able to get past your confessing this failure so blithely, since this is something they’d never abide others knowing about themselves. For introverts, either minimize the personal revelations or segregate them in a section of a newsletter or web site they can skip.

My own clients tend to be about 75 percent introverts, and this probably has to do with how easily introverts can identify that I’m someone like them whose success they can model. Take a look at the personality profile of your own customer base and how you market, and you may well find some eye-opening patterns.

You may certainly decide to continue to turn off introverts, but do make that a conscious choice rather than a side effect of simply following popular marketing tactics.

?2010 brings in new hope of recovery,? says Stellar Concepts and Design |

January 25th, 2010

Author: Anthony Giudice

This New Year will bring new rays of hope for all. With the close of recession phase, businesses are planning new strategies for their company to make more and more profit and make up for the loss they have suffered during this downturn. The main aim for them is the revival of their products and services in the market.  They need to increase the visibility of their brand. Hence, the focus is to plan a marketing/ advertising campaign which will bring back their lost customers.

“According to the latest research reports, advertisers are planning to increase their advertisement expenditure budget from 2010. It is because companies are planning to improve their market share and they have plans to grow and diversify. For them, the best way to start off is to search a company which can help them in their marketing efforts. A professional specialized advertising and marketing company can be a great deal for companies who really want to make a difference in the market. We at Stellar Concepts and Design offer attractive marketing and advertising packages for businesses who are struggling to gain online and offline presence in the market”, informs Anthony Giudice, Vice President of Sales of Stellar Concepts and Design.

“A new start in this new year will be very profitable for your business. So plan and allocate good amount of budget for your marketing efforts”, says Anthony Giudice. “It is not possible for any business to devote equal time to their marketing plans as they do for the operating tasks. Plus a marketing effort will not give you results unless you give a proper thought and a lot of time over it. Thus, businesses mostly prefer to outsource their marketing work to companies that are specialists in this field. It helps to avoid mistakes in marketing plans and saves a lot of cost of the company. Also a professional plan will surely provide benefit to the company. However cost must not be the only criteria when you select a firm for your marketing plans. Quality of the work, consistent results and professional approach are some of the factors that has to be kept in mind while selecting an outsourcing company”, adds Giudice.

With more and more competition around you, it’s difficult to find a remarkable position in the market. Hence, an excellent proactive marketing plan can save you from the cut throat competition.

Why Should Your Prospects Choose You? Show Them You Are Worthy! |

January 20th, 2010

Author: Pete Brand

It’s interesting to look at the process people go through when starting a new website …

Once they decide they need a site they begin to plan what content they’d like to have on the site.

The majority of the companies decide they need a page that talks about them so they add an “About Us” page to their site.

Secondly they would like to talk about their products or services so they add a “Products” or “Services” page to their site.

The most important part to the new website is giving it’s visitors the ability to contact them to do business or ask questions which is where the infamous “Contact Us” page comes from.

I could go on and on but I am guessing you’ve seen these types of pages on almost every website you’ve ever been to, so I won’t bore you. I am sure when you decided to get your first website online you had the intention of increasing your business and tapping into the “gold mine” the Internet makes available to us all.

Heck, this was my initial motivation as well and I’m sure this is no earth shattering revelation.

Well the problem with this process of developing a website is unfortunately absolutely wrong. No, I’m not saying you won’t make any sales or receive any phone calls by structuring your website this way. I am just saying you are limiting the potential revenue by doing it and you could do MUCH better.

The first issue I have with this tired old navigation structure is it doesn’t offer any value to your potential buyers and, if you don’t provide value for your buyers, they’ll leave and go to a competitor who does.

These buyers don’t care about you, your products, or your services. They only care about what’s in it for them!

If that’s the case why would you spend even two seconds creating a website that blathers on and on about your company, products, services and then provide them with a page so they can contact you?

Well, I should say why would you do that and expect any level of online success?

If you want a visitor to arrive at your website, consume the information, and ultimately make the decision to do business with your company instead of the competition, you need to prove you are worthy!

Let’s say you happen to be in the insurance industry.

We all know there are a million insurance agents out there ranging from property & casualty, life insurance, disability insurance, health insurance, and all the other forms of insurance available.

We also know you can’t swing a stick without hitting a half dozen or so agents in your local city, and if you go online you could spend a week non-stop online checking out every agent.

Although it may seem like standing out amongst your competition is a staggering, uphill battle … it’s not!

The best way for you to impress visitors to your website is to provide value to them before you ask them to spend any money with you insuring their prized possessions. You can provide this value by allowing them to download a free report, or maybe a discount card for their prescriptions that doesn’t cost them anything.

If you’d REALLY like to stand out in the crowd you could include a section on your website which educates your potential customers by including articles.

Every person looking for insurance or any product for that matter has the question in their head, “Why should I buy from you?” when they visit your website.

It is your job to answer that question. If I am going to be insuring the possessions or making sure I am covered if something happens to me physically, I want to work with someone who has knowledge of the products I am looking for so they can make intelligent recommendations based on my situation.

If I happen to read a couple articles on your website which relates to a situation similar to my own, and I can tell the person who wrote it knows their stuff …

They have proved themselves worthy of my business and the chances will dramatically decrease that I’ll find the need to visit their competitor’s website.

Whatever business you’re in, don’t just assume that because you have a website, and a prospect visits it, that you’ve done everything necessary to get their business. You need to use that website as a platform to prove your worth, and once you have, make it easy for them to do business with you.

Use your website to showcase your expertise and you’ll dramatically increase your chances for online success!

The RIGHT VOICE will make you money!! |

January 20th, 2010

Author: Bryan Cox

Your advertising can LIVE. Now’s the time for fresh new approch. The Voice over is the part of a TV show, Commercial etc where you hear just the voice of the narrator or announcer. People retain 81 % of what they hear from a professional voice over artist as compared to only 35% from a regular person doing the voice over. You’ve all heard the owner of a business doing his own ads. 98% are pretty bad. The trend today is to have a professional voice over person sound like a regular person. That way marketing and ad agencies figure you have all bases covered. This kind of ad can almost sound phoney too and that’s because of the script. The writers don’t normally write for the voice and personality, they write to time like 15, 30 sec. Believe me they try to fit in as much as they can in that time. Thus the script doesn’t sound natural.

As a client you want the best writing, voice and production and you don’t want to pay a fortune for all three. Rule of thumb if you’re a client, less is more when it comes to writing, try to have one big idea per commercial. When Ford advertises about a truck, the commercial is about a truck and not about the whole line of Ford vehicles. The voice need to pay for is one that isn’t heard in your market place. Don’t use a voice from the local radio station. Chances are that that voice is already on dozens of commercials. Remember a different voice makes your spot different and that means it’ll stand out from the others. Once you’ve hired the voice, they can usually do all the production for you and do it well. That voice will even email the spot to any station you’d like too. Some good places to hire a professional voices that have state of the art production studios is..

How to Make More Money With Online Marketing |

January 19th, 2010

Author: Dhruv Patel

Since the internet revolution in the early 90’s, the internet has evolved into so many things, it has become a very large market for different products and services and also it has made life more convenient and easy. People and firms can now earn money from the internet and also people have now embraced the internet to be provide them with extra income.

Now some people will ask this question that how can the internet make them earn extra cash? The internet has solutions and marketing solutions that will service your needs and generate income for you. In some cases people do not really need huge incomes from the internet nor do they want a full time career from this. But for which ever category that you fall into, there is always a space for you.

Online marketing is a form of advertisement for your product to customers so that you will have more sales for your product. This online marketing involves you trying to increase the web presence i.e. traffic to your product site. There are ways of marketing online, you can even become a reseller of a product like being an affiliate. An affiliate is someone who markets and resells other people product for a commission, so you can use any means of advertisement or marketing technique.

You can also use the PPC ,method to market a product. What is PPC? PPC stands for Pay Per Click and just as the name implies, you will pay for adverts depending on the number of people that clicks on your link. PPC has always provided its users with genuine and steady income, though the program requires that you will pay a certain amount of money for your links to be featured on the website. when you are considering online sales, what should be in your mind is that for you to be assured of sales, then you have to learn to build your traffic. So you will need a high volume of traffic to earn on the internet.

Another way is through article writing. You will have to write articles on the product that you are promoting. There are article directories on the internet so for you to get started, you can do a Google search and search for the ‘best 10 article directories’ you can register with a number of them, as registration is always free. You will now write articles on the product that you want to promote and submit them to the article directory. Your articles will be subject to reviews and if it meets up with their standard, then your articles will be featured on their website. Internet users using search engines can view your articles and it will contain links that will direct them to your product’s web page. The advantage of the article marketing is that compared to the PPC, its cheaper but you will have to be writing constantly about the product to bring constant traffic to your product site.

There are other paid means of advertisement whereby you will pay an advertising company on the internet and they will market your website for you. Just know that whatever means that you want to use, it’s the amount of customers that you get coming to your website that matters. The more the visitors to your site, the more sales you will make.

Sell More Than Your Competition – Let a Bird Show You How |

January 19th, 2010

Author: Steve Lawson

As I was stuck in traffic one afternoon, I happened to look out the window and witness a fascinating event. Two small birds, perhaps sparrows, were being attacked by a larger bird, perhaps a grackle (those are guesses-forgive me for not knowing the exact species). Then the small birds turned the table. The two of them attacked and drove off a bird many times their size. How did they do it? They knew their competition. They knew that a “beak-to-beak” battle would be short-lived and would not end in their favor, because the grackle was much larger and stronger. Their advantage was agility. They were much faster and more nimble than the grackle. Essentially, one of the sparrows would fly in front of the grackle, just out of his reach, while the other sparrow flew above the grackle. While the lower sparrow created a distraction, the sparrow on top would constantly dart down and peck the grackle on the back of his head. Every time he did, the grackle would flinch and alter his course. After being repeatedly “pecked” from above, the grackle finally gave up and flew away.

What on earth does this bizarre episode from Urban Animal Planet have to do with business? Those sparrows are smarter than most business owners. First of all, they knew exactly who their competition was…the grackle. Second, they knew the strengths of the grackle. He was much bigger and stronger than them. Third, they knew their advantages over the grackle. They were much quicker and more nimble (and apparently smarter). They used all of this knowledge to their advantage to quickly and safely deter their competition.

How much time have you spent evaluating who your competition is, what their strengths are, and what your advantages are over them? Doing so can provide you with the knowledge you need to overcome your competition.

First, who is your competition? Sometimes this is incredibly obvious, and that is what causes problems. Who is the primary competition of Coke? Obviously, it is Pepsi. However, cola drinks have been losing market share to bottled water, flavored water and energy drinks for several years now. Many people do not realize that a can of iced Starbucks is competition for Coke. Apply this to your situation. You know you are competing with people who do the exact same thing you do. However, what other professions or businesses can interfere with your success? Know who you are competing against.

Second, what are their strengths? You cannot change the strengths of your competition. You must identify their strengths and adjust accordingly. If you are not sure what their strengths are, you should ask some of their customers. “That’s great, Mrs. Johnson. I have heard that the ABC Firm is a great company. Exactly what about them persuaded you to select them?” Once you have identified the strengths of your competition, then you can develop a strategy to combat those strengths.

Third, what are your advantages over them? This two-part step is the most difficult because it requires us to be honest with ourselves and identify our strengths and weaknesses. Assume one of those sparrows was not honest with himself and determined his advantage was strength and power. What would happen when he decides to challenge the grackle face-to-face? The birds are smart enough to be honest about their strengths and weaknesses, because it is the only way to survive. If you want to survive, you should, too.

Once you have determined your strengths and weaknesses, you can compare them to the strengths of your competition and develop a strategy for victory. For some, developing the strategy is a plain as black and white, and for others it is the most challenging part of a smart business plan. Either way, it is the only way to ensure your survival.
