A young man desiring to take up a wife from the state may just need extra financial capabilities to meet up with the “artificial” financial challenges necessary to do so. Marrying from any of the five Igbo states of the south-east especially if such a Youngman is a beginner in life can pose serious difficulty but it is worst contemplating marriage with any of these several Igbo women from Anambra State of Nigeria.

 

There are several factors an Anambra father may consider giving out her daughter’s hand in marriage to you. The first is the personal consideration on whether “Adanma” is a university graduate or not, if she is it will then mean more money for you. The justification behind this development is that you were probably cooling-off somewhere and somehow when her parents or just anyone decided to fund her education up to university level but of-course you may argue that it was the responsibility of her parents. Your interest in consummating a marriage with her will by far overrule this as it will form part of your marriage rites. Your romance with that Anambra women may just not see the light of the day.

 

Ever seen a marriage list form any part of Anambra State? You would think there are regular meetings with the elders of Anambra ladies ripe for marriage. This is a gradual introduction of “Owo Omo-Onile” in the traditional marriage rite of a distinguished and innocent woman by the elders and youths of a society. Failure to settle this may mean disruption of the occasion by the restive youths supported by their parents and out to milk an aspiring Youngman, yet this thing continues for many of them have been affected in the past and many more will eventually experience it.  

 

In one village, visitors accompanying their own man to marry a beautiful lady were made to unwillingly give out all they had to their Anambra in-laws. First they were told to give out money before the rice on fire could be put down, again, they were told to pay for the labour of the women who had hectic time cooking for the occasion, money was also necessary from the visitors to part for the breast milk the bride enjoyed from her woman. This would have continued until one of the female visitors intervened demanding that a stop be put to it all.

 

The Anambra woman with all her preferences to a trader in spite of her high educational qualification is also a problem. Ordinarily, there is nothing wrong with an educated woman marrying a trader but in this case, the problem is that she intends to inherit all the wealth and acquire every comfort available in the world. She therefore has possessed the propensity for looking-down on other men that are just coming up. It is for this reason that it is often said that only the Anambra understands Anambra. They go well with each other.

 

When you reveal even to your fellow Igbo man that you are getting married to an Anambra women, he screams and asks you whether you have over N1.5m (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) for the traditional aspect of the marriage only. This will surely cause to begin to wonder just how you need to feed with your new partner. This is what marriage with an Anambra lady will do to you.
